LEHScan

An idea from the workshop that became a major project: industrial cameras read every part as it passes by, and the completion report goes to the ERP automatically.

The challenge

The idea came from Christoph Lehmann: a camera above a machine's conveyor belt should read the QR code on every passing part and automatically report the work step as finished. The joinery runs its production with Zentro, and Zentro provides an interface for completion reports.

Our solution

We built a system that reads the code on the moving conveyor and sends the completion report to Zentro via the interface. Along the way we tested a lot, and in the end it was clear: for codes at full speed and from a great height, you need industrial cameras from SICK. A Lector83x hangs above the conveyor of the edge bander, and a SEC200 reads at the panel saw. A Raspberry Pi on site buffers every scan so that nothing gets lost, even when the network is down. The server matches camera, machine and cost centre and reports the work step to Zentro, while workshop monitors show live what's going on. And the project keeps growing: more machines and cameras are already lined up.

What's inside

In detail.

  • SICK Lector83x

5 megapixels above the conveyor, triggered by a light barrier, reads every part at full speed.

  • SICK SEC200

Reads at close range at the panel saw; the part is simply held up to it.

  • Raspberry Pi 5

Buffers every scan in a queue and only sends outbound.

  • Workshop monitors

Live display at the machine, employee badge with QR code for signing in and out.

  • Phone scanner

Look up and scan parts right in the browser.

  • Zentro integration

Completion reports via the interface, with a trial run before going live.
